  • Additional Information
    • Alternate Title:
Extensive skin ulcer of the lower limb due to multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli.
    • Abstract:
Escherichia coli is not a common cause of skin infections. The case is presented here of a skin ulcer on the leg caused by E. coli producing extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), in a 73-year-old man who had diabetes mellitus (DM) with excellent glycemic control, without clinically significant lower limb blood vessel disease, and with no known immunosuppression. The combination of long-term treatment with carbapenems and intensive topical care of the ulcer resulted in complete healing of the skin lesion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
