      The objective was to identify the innovation process in tourism companies in Sonora, Mexico. A descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out. As an instrument for collecting information, a 22-item questionnaire was applied to managers of 277 organizations. The results show that the tourism companies approached carry out innovation through the improvement of their processes, which promotes organizational innovation. However, they do not introduce or develop new methods or technologies as enhancing elements of their growth and positioning, since what they have acquired is focused on improving operational processes.       El objetivo fue identificar el proceso de innovación en las empresas turísticas de Sonora, México. Se realizó una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cuantitativo. Como instrumento de recolección de información, se aplicó un cuestionario de 22 ítems a directivos de 277 organizaciones. Los resultados demuestran que las empresas turísticas abordadas, llevan a cabo innovación a través de la mejora de sus procesos, lo cual promueve la innovación organizacional. No obstante, no introducen ni desarrollan nuevos métodos o tecnologías como elementos potenciadores de su crecimiento y posicionamiento, dado que lo adquirido se enfoca en la mejora de los procesos operativos.
