    • Abstract:
The author discusses a new development plan, engineered by the Orion Corporation, a multinational manufacturer of automobile parts, for the Mexican city, Ciudad Juárez. Orion, along with other maquiladoras, want to redevelop the city, a place currently known for its high rates of drug violence, expanding squatter settlements and environmental degradation, so it will be attractive to skilled professionals. The author attempts to show, by combining a Marxist critique of capitalism with feminist theory, how the new plan requires the reproduction of the current city, with its poverty, inadequate infrastructure and unskilled, low-waged laborers.
