- Abstract:
The article mentions economic controls such as rationing that were in effect during World War II, relations with iron curtain countries, and the United States postwar economy. In a time of diplomatic tension and uncertain peace, the economic problems are contingency planning for military readiness, a cyclical boom with full employment, government debt and taxes, trade unionism, and high cost of living. The American public supports democratic processes, but could be challenged by ideological imperialism, as well as semantics and psychology in Soviet propaganda. Topics are the outlook for the declaration of a shooting war, the American objective of universal peace, optimism about economic recovery in Europe, inflation or deflation, and executives' tasks.
