Manifestations of social constructionism in the therapeutic process and learning of healthcare professionals through theatrical expression. (English)
    • Abstract:
Speech as a communicative method of interaction is, according to social constructionism, the means by which the individual signifies reality, always within a relational context. Knowledge is regarded as a social contract, and thus cannot be considered definitive and absolutely true, and it is subjected to an endless process of search, reflection and re-interpretation, always in the context of social interaction. When therapists function within a culture of cooperative therapeutics, they reduce the distance in the dipolar patient-healthcare professional relationship. The meaning of the patient's world of health and disease is produced by the language process, and the use of alternative sentences and words will lead to the transformation of reality. Remodeling of experiences and reorganization of thoughts takes place also through engagement with art, as it is effectively used in the therapeutic field. The main component is theatrical expression, which allows the client to narrate his(her) experience, to express genuine feelings and to be strengthened by using the diversity of roles in his(her) personal role. Through the method of transfer, the patient transforms a life event within the safe therapeutic environment, composes a memory, and experiences a mechanism that allows reflection, release and improvement of his(her) psychosomatic status. A transformative process also takes place through theatrical expression in the field of learning. Social constructionism corresponds to the experiential technique of drama therapy in the context of adult education, where self-understanding and development of social skills are achieved. In addition, it becomes possible to optimize the thoughts, attitudes and behaviors of the participants, contributing to their well-being in their working social life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
