      The objective was to describe emergency distance education due to the COVID-19 pandemic, innovation or improvisation, at the Universidad Politécnica Territorial from Zulia, Venezuela. It was based on the approaches of Hodges, Moore, Lockee, Trust and Bond (2020), and Chaparro and Franco (2020). The methodology corresponded to a descriptive study with a field design. An online questionnaire was applied to 34 teachers from the institution. The results reveal that teachers use technological tools: Email, WhatsApp, text messages, Google Classroom, and Google Drive as support instruments for problems of physical access, psycho-affective and financial limitations.       El objetivo fue describir la educación a distancia de emergencia por la pandemia COVID-19, innovación o improvisación, en la Universidad Politécnica Territorial del Zulia, Venezuela. Se fundamentó en los planteamientos de Hodges, Moore, Lockee, Trust y Bond (2020), y, Chaparro y Franco (2020). La metodología correspondió a un estudio descriptivo con diseño de campo. Se aplicó un cuestionario en línea a 34 docentes de la institución. Los resultados revelan que los docentes utilizan las herramientas tecnológicas: correo electrónico, WhatsApp, mensajes de texto, Google Classroom; y Google Drive, como instrumentos de apoyo ante problemas de acceso físico, psico-afectivos y limitaciones económicas.
